Catherine "The Herb Lady" Crowley

Catherine Crowley

Catherine, considered an expert in edible landscaping in the desert writes and teaches how to grow edibles in all their wonderful variety, usual and unusual, and how to cook with them, including low fat, low salt and meatless dishes.

"The Herb Lady", (Catherine), has been gardening for over three decades. During the "budding" part of her gardening "trowel and error" she was personally responsible for a lot of "green death", and from those lost friends, she has learned a great deal and developed her personal gardening philosophy- "enlightened neglect".

Her book, "Edible Landscaping in the Desert Southwest: Wheelbarrow to Plate", expanded upon the concept of edible landscaping to offer beginning desert gardeners an easy to follow month-by-month calendar, garden tips and of course, recipes.

Her cookbook, "101+ Recipes from The Herb Lady" is filled with over 150 recipes and tips, facts and history of edible herbs and their uses.

Catherine has taught classes at various locations private and public including:

  • Desert Botanical Garden (the summer and fall of 2006 she was an expert consultant to the new Herb Garden at the Desert Botanical Garden, and the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
  • She was a regular guest on streaming radio with Ed Phillips at azalmanac.com
  • Catherine wrote for the East Valley Tribune as a contributing columnist for over four years, on growing and using edible herbs.

Catherine blogs and writes an irregular internet newsletter on greening, gardening and cooking in the Valley of the Sun.
